2024 Tionól

The 2024 Tionól will be centered around the Claddagh Cottage Irish Pub in Orlando, FL. Classes will be close to or at the pub, and you are welcome to book an accommodation on your own. (see Schedule page for a list of nearby hotels)

2024 marks the 22nd year of the South East Tionól. A tionól is a music gathering whose focus is to allow students of Irish pipes and fiddle the opportunity to meet in person, take lessons from masters of the instrument, participate (or listen) to sessions, and attend a concert of the instructors. Beginners of the uilleann pipes are always welcome. For fiddle, it is expected that the attendee has some basic level proficiency with the instrument (but it does not have to be Irish music).

Instructors

We're happy to announce the following instructors for this year. Additional instructors will be posted as they are confirmed.

Muireann Ní Shé

Muireann Ní Shé is an uilleann piper, multi-instrumentalist and singer from County Cork.

She has been immersed in Irish language, music and song since childhood. She attributes her main musical influences to local musicians as well as the old recordings of legendary musicians and singers who have gone before. She earned a First Class Honours BMus degree from the MTU Cork School of Music and has a passion for music education and is an experienced tutor of the pipes, flute and whistle.

Muireann’s debut album, Éistigh Liomsa Sealad, is a unique sound-world, where contemporary and traditional influences combine with the dominating sounds of the pipes and ethereal arrangements of sean-nós song. The album features an array of soulful collaborations with artists such as Aoife Blake, Macdara Ó Faoláin, Johnny McCarthy and Jake Kalilec.

She was featured in in a number of solo tracks from the highly anticipated 2023 album "Mná Na bPíob Uilleann: Vol.1”. We are honored to bring her as an instructor to the South East Tionól.

Eimear Arkins

Eimear Arkins comes from a small village on the west coast of Ireland called Ruan, in County Clare. She is an award winning musician, singer and dancer with eleven solo Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann (World Irish Music Championships) titles to her credit.

Eimear has toured throughout the US, Ireland and beyond with acclaimed bands like Cherish The Ladies, Téada, The Paul Brock Band, and Tomaseen Foley’s A Celtic Christmas.

In June 2018 she released her debut album, What’s Next? and was awarded “Best Newcomer” from LiveIreland in 2019.

In January 2020, Eimear was awarded an Artist Fellowship from the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis. Eimear is excited for the release of her second album in 2023 which will feature collaborations with David McKindley Ward, Eileen Gannon, Alan Murray and Kevin Buckley.

It is a great priviledge to bring Eimear as an instructor to the South East Tionól.

Michael Stribling

Michael Stribling is an uilleann piper living in Tallahassee, Florida and grew up in a family filled with Irish music influences. His teachers included Jerry O’Sullivan and Mickey Dunne.

Michael quickly rose to be a fine uilleann piper and relates closely to the old style piping of Patsy Tuoey. Michael placed 1st in the 2010 All Ireland Uilleann Piping competition in Cavan.

When not competing in Iron Man triathlons, he can be seen and heard playing with his siblings in the band, Killavil, as well as with the group Full Set as they tour the United States.

Michael can be heard on the album “The Rolling Wave, A New generation of Uilleann Pipers”, produced by NPU. He will be a returning teacher to the South East Tionól!
